About

At OneStone, we’re captivated by the beautiful, counterintuitive truths that arise from theoretical mathematics. Our name comes from the German word “einstein” meaning “one stone”—a nod to a newly discovered polygon which finally answers an age-old question.

In 2023, a group of mathematicians uncovered a 13‑sided shape nicknamed the “hat.” This single tile has a remarkable property: when you copy and paste it over and over, it covers an infinite plane without ever repeating the same arrangement. That makes it the first known “aperiodic monotile,” a shape that can tile the plane but only in a non‑repeating pattern. Its geometry locks pieces together in a hierarchy of larger and larger clusters, creating patterns that look regular at first glance but never truly repeat.

We think that’s incredible. When we contemplate the use of prints and patterns in fashion, the idea of a new pattern that is visually pleasing and subtle, yet proven to be imbued with unique mathematical properties, is extremely cool; consider it a high-tech houndstooth.

These products are for the few other people on this planet that may feel the same way.
